VALOI optimises production with Weerg’s PA12 3D printing

VALOI product

VALOI, a brand of the Finnish company Kameratori Oy and specialised in film-digitalisation systems for the home market, has started a collaboration with Weerg to optimise the production of technical components essential to its products.

The goal was clear: to obtain precise and reliable parts while maintaining fast delivery times and consistent quality — essential requirements for a company operating in a dynamic and rapidly expanding global market.

The challenge: Continuous, consistent-quality production

VALOI products are designed to offer users precise, stable and straightforward film digitisation. Each system is composed of technical parts that require:

  • high dimensional precision;
  • absolute repeatability between one production batch and the next;
  • long-term durability and wear resistance;
  • rapid procurement times;
  • scalable production with no limits or start-up costs;
  • the ability to develop new products publicly and at low risk thanks to the absence of upfront tooling costs;
  • a production method that supports fast iteration and reduces development costs.

Traditional technologies ensured quality, but slowed down development and supply processes. VALOI therefore needed a system that could maintain precision while supporting rapid, low-risk product evolution.

The solution: PA12 Components through industrial 3D printing

Weerg produced several components for VALOI using industrial Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing in nylon PA12, available in black, white and raw grey.
The material proved ideal thanks to its combination of stiffness, stability and wear resistance. MJF also offers additional advantages essential to VALOI:

  • suitable surface quality and robustness for customer-facing parts;
  • scalability to thousands of units per year without additional tooling costs.

Integrating Weerg’s additive manufacturing enabled VALOI to:

  • obtain parts with accurate and uniform geometries down to the smallest detail;
  • produce batch after batch with the same quality and no variation;
  • receive components in reduced lead times, keeping production constantly active;
  • avoid high costs and extended timelines typical of traditional manufacturing;
  • prototype and test new designs quickly in the same process used for final parts;
  • bring proven prototypes into production immediately, without start-up costs;
  • reduce development risk and improve products through rapid, public iteration.

The entire process became more agile and scalable, with a greater ability to anticipate market demand.

Weerg: precision, speed and reliability

The collaboration with Weerg has led to a tangible improvement in VALOI’s operations, increasing the reliability of its supply chain and the sustainability of its production pace.

The main advantages observed are:

  1. Consistent quality with every order
    Each component arrives ready to use, with the precision needed to ensure smooth digitisation performance.
  2. Fast and predictable delivery times
    Automated online production allows VALOI to replenish stock quickly, keeping the production pipeline constantly active.
  3. Custom manufacturing
    3D printing makes it possible to create customised and complex components that easily adapt to product evolution.
  4. Resource optimisation
    Producing only what is needed, when it is needed, reduces costs, stock levels and waste.

As the VALOI team highlights:

“Developing new products, particularly in a category that hardly exists and constantly changes, is typically costly, risky and time consuming. After launching our first product using traditional methods, which required a crowdfunding to get it off the ground, we were able to launch our second, more complex product with less funding and a much faster turnaround time. Being able to prototype in the final production method with a 1-week turnaround and then bring the exact same model into production with a 3-4 week turnaround has completely changed the scope of our development and allowed us to thrive in a consumer niche.

The driving force behind that was Weerg’s MJF PA12 services and their fantastic cost-to-quality. With Weerg, we delivered products from from final prototype to customers in three weeks, and then rapidly scale that up to thousands of units. In the following two years we were able to deliver consistent quality to discerning, technical customers using parts from Weerg.”

A partnership that accelerates innovation

The VALOI–Weerg partnership demonstrates how additive manufacturing can become a strategic asset for companies requiring consistent quality, reliable lead times and total flexibility.

Thanks to industrial nylon PA12 3D printing, VALOI has been able to improve product quality, accelerate development and respond more precisely to market needs - all while reducing risk and enabling rapid public iteration of new products.
